John S. McCain

person’s viewpoint on life can be influenced by their background. John McCain’s military lifestyle has influence on the decisions he makes today. He was born I the Panama Canal Zone, a military installation where his family was stationed. John McCain grew up as a military brat who never lived in a place for more than five and a half years. Even then that place was when he was being held captive. He was rebellious when he went to school, so he never really received any good grades. He attended US Naval Academy where he placed 894th among his classmates of 899. Each year, he would earn more than 100 demerits, which kept him I the century club hall of fame. He was married to model Carol Shepp for fifteen years and had one daughter and adopted her two sons from her previous marriage. New Jersey

New Jersey is my choice for the math part of the pbl blog. I chose New Jersey because my dad's family lives there. Also, my family travels there at least once a year at Christmas.

Obama Poll Percentage Graph

McCain Poll Percentage Graph

Conclusion Reflection on Math New Jersey Polls

The diagnositic test showed that Obama's line accuracy was greater than McCain's so it is more likely to be true. I predict that Obama will win New Jersey. This is because the best fit line shows that it will. Using the polls to predict how the election will turn out is not always the best way. This is because they can't be sure of what will happen. It is a good idea for New Jersey because they usually vote democratic so it is very likely that Obama will win the state.

Democratic Mission Statement

Where the stakes are the highest, in the war on terror, we cannot possibly succeed without extraordinary international cooperation. Effective international police actions require the highest degree of intelligence sharing, planning and collaborative enforcement.

Response to Technology...Blackboard

The candidate’s views on the issue of technology are very similar. As an example, the follow quotes are cited from the McCain and Obama websites: “His policies will provide broad pools of capital, low taxes and incentives for research in America, a commitment to a skilled and educated workforce, and a dedication to opening markets around the globe.” “We must use all available technologies and methods to open up the federal government, creating a new level of transparency to change the way business is conducted in Washington and giving Americans the chance to participate in government deliberations and decision-making in ways that were not possible only a few years ago.” These quotes show that both campaigns want to better the access of technology within the United States government. However, McCain’s website gives a brief overview of McCain’s stance on technology and why we should vote for him while Obama’s goes into more depth. Obama’s website goes into extreme detail on Obama’s position on the issue of technology.

Political Cartoon 6

The Ameircan public is making fun of the socialist views of Barack Obama. As an example, they have a mom says that there is enough candy to go around and to spread the wealth. This is an anaolgy to Obama who wants to "spread the wealth." Another example is that the kids are calling their mother a socialist. This dictacts the citizens that oppose Obama are like the kids yelling at their mother. Obama is being taunted for being a socialist even though his presidency may turn out for the better.

Political Cartoon 5

The economy is failing to the extent where nothing the government does will make a lasting solution to the economic crisis. As an example, this political cartoon shows an “economy boat” that has sunk under water. This demonstrates how the economy is collapsing. As a further example, this cartoon shows Bush in the economy boat trying to empty the water with a “bailout bucket.” This illustrates how the government is desperately attempting to fix the US debt. The ripple effect of the decisions that are being made today will determine how we live tomorrow.

Political Cartoon 4

The economy is failing and the final results depend on who is elected as President of the United States. As a example from the politcial cartoon, there is a bull that has been shot with the words economy on it and John McCain saying oops. This illustrates that the economy will continue to fall with John McCain as president. As a further example, there is Palin asking McCain if he would like her to field dress it. This dictacts that you can take her out of the country but you can’t take the country out of her, meaning her presence and ideas won’t make any difference. According to this cartoon, if the Repubilcan Party wins the election the economy will not improve.

Political Cartoon 3

The political parties are caught in a steadfast fight that continues to go back in forth with the powerful influences from each campaign taking effect. As an example, this political cartoon shows Biden hooked up to Obama’s bus to give it more power. This is illustrates that Obama’s campaign was failing, and when Biden w as elected as his Vice President his campaign’s reputation increased. Another example in the cartoon is Obama asking Hillary and Bill to give his “Obama Change” bus a push. This depicts that Hilary and Bill add an extra bonus to Obama’s campaign, steadily making the polls increase. The influences that the candidates have over the voters are clouding their judgment from reality.

Political Cartoon 2

The political parties have chosen people that are totally different than their nominee for President. As an example, in this political cartoon, Obama and Biden are seen as complete opposites that are in the same race. This illustrates that Obama and Biden have two different points of view, yet are in the same campaign for President. As a further example, the cartoon shows McCain and Palin racing together, while also shown as opposites, with one having more experience than the other. This shows that McCain has had more experience than Palin and still chose her to be vice president. The political parties have chosen people according to who would offset their Presidential nominee’s flaws.

Political Cartoon 1

The political party’s judgment within the governmental system is affected by gender issues rather than national issues. For example, this political cartoon dictates that Palin was chosen for Vice President to convert Hillary supporters to McCain’s side. This demonstrates that the Republican Party is making decisions within the campaign according to gender issues, rather than their political party issues. Another example is that in the cartoon, Bill Clinton is shown falling in love with Sarah Palin. This illustrates people siding with McCain because of the female presence in his campaign. The choices that the political parties are making could lead to the best candidate for President not being elected.

Q & A w/ Reflection

Q: How does the presidential candidates’ choice for vice president affect your vote?

A: Obama made a serious choice. He chose a person that was strong where he was weak, Foreign Policy. McCain made a wild guess.

Q: Does the candidate that you are voting for have opinions on issues you don’t agree with? Explain.

A: There are some issues that I don’t agree with, but they are minimal. The issues that I agree with overpower the others.

Q: How does the government economy affect your vote?

A: It makes it more serious that we need to get the right president in the office to make the changes that need to be done.

Q: How does the candidates’ position on changing the education in our schools affect your vote? Why?

A: Does McCain even have a perspective on education? I haven’t heard one. Obama recognizes that changes need to be made to improve the educational system.

Q: How does the presidential candidates talk about change affect you? Do you think they will actually take the time to make the change they say they will?

A: They will try to make the changes that they say but will not be able to accomplish everything they say.

Reflection:

During my interview the interviewee responded fairly. He could have responded with more elaboration but you can tell his viewpoint and standards as the questions are asked. The first question asks his opinions concerning the choice of the vice presidential nominee for each of the parties. Through this question, we see that he believes that Barrack Obama chose his vice presidential nominee wisely since Biden is strong in Obama’s weakness. The second question asks if he agrees with everything that his presidential choice does. The responding answer shows that he is willing it overlook minor issues to focus on the issues that are more important. The third question asks how the economy effects his decision. The reaction to this matter contains the realization that we need to get the right president in the office to establish the changes that need to be done. The fourth question asks how the candidates’ stance on the education in our schools affects him. His answer to this inquiry shows that Obama’s views on education have been clearly dictated as on the contrary, McCain’s has not. McCain’s issues on education have been their but they haven’t been made to stand out in his campaign as some of the other issues have. The fifth question asks how the candidates’ talk of change affects him. His response to this issue shows that he realizes that all of the change that the candidates’ have said will not come true. He believes that whoever is elected will try to the implement changes that they have stated. All anyone can do is wait to see how the election turns out, and the decisions that are to follow.
